David Shilling was chosen to design the emblem for the UK's Festival of Arts and Culture. The success of this led to him working with the British Government agencies on the re-branding of the UK as a design-led world centre, not just around central London but highlighting other cities hardly considered before such as Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.
